👉👉I had a client I’ll call Susan, who had done a couple of shows but was now struggling with excess weight that simply would NOT leave..
She was in her 40’s with a teenage daughter at home, single mom and worked in law enforcement. She had an extra 40 lbs on her body that was there before her figure show💪, and it returned after she gained back the post show weight…and a bit more (common).
🔎🔎 The challenge with Susan wasn’t so much in what she was eating (although clearly, she was in a control relationship with her food as she was trying to manage weight loss by weighing, tracking, overseeing every morsal…and naturally at times, she would ‘binge’ to free her up from the intensity of it all…common in those who ‘comply’ pretty hard…they just want to be set FREE!).
It was her beliefs, rooted in fear, that were at the root of her issues.
🌞As a competittor, she did very well. After all, her personality lent itself to her stage success because due to her background in law enforcement, she complied, she stuck to the rules, and she did as she was instructed. She was used to doing so, as her work necessitated her being on top of things and being in control.
⛈⛈ But in the real world, it was working against her. Her biggest challenge was learning to loosen her grip and to move into the Middle Way, where food becomes food, the body looses its tight grip on the excess weight and it feels ‘safe’ and begins to let the weight come off.
🧠🧠And the brain, the psyche knows it’s ‘safe’ also. But a lifetime of over control can be hard to change…and what was evident was that Susan applied the same THINKING to my teachings…you gotta do it HARD and be ON TRACK, when in fact, we were trying to loosen up her world, her brain, her tight grip on her body, life, habits and her perspectives.
🥺🥺In the end, she felt too uncomfortable with the ‘ease and flow’ of how life, food, weight management could and should be, and her instinctive pull to ‘lock down’ her habits and her life came back into play…it was, after all her comfort zone, her self inflicted prison that was rooted in fear. For her, she didn’t allow herself to stick with the process ong enough to see any real changes…she left the program prematurely.
🥺🥺Today, she is still holding the extra 40 pounds on her body as she continues eating her way through low carb promises, rice cakes with peanut butter (a post workout fav of competitors) and cardio-ing 4-5 times a week to try and move the scale needle down.
What was at work here was ‘who am I if I don’t maintain a tight control on life…it will all fall apart‘. ⛓️💥⛓️💥 Little did she understand is when we let go of the illusion of control, we actually gain control and get momentum in our life.
Her fears did not shift, and her body and nervous system…her brain, could not learn differently because it was never given the time, energy or chance it deserved.
Susan’s case was a classic example of the need to face our fears (change is NECESSARY for growth) and to learn to have FAITH and learn SELF LOVE in the process. Instead, she was reverting back to her comfort zone.
In fact, I’m not sure that she ever really left it behind….🥺
