I Love Chocolate – I Love Nut Butters

And when you combine them together….POW….they hit every taste bud in your mouth satisfying the stomach and mind.  When I crave these two foods I know something is amiss in my life – I’m either stressed, tired, lack of nutrition, to many carbs, magnesium deficiency or procrastinating.  Sometimes I just want to have something really yummy : )

I do my best to ignore the craving but there are times when I make the choice to indulge.  It was imperative that I come up with a way I could consume these two delights without compromising my nutrition and hard work in the gym.

I created a smoothie that tastes heavenly, conquers the craving and fits the nutrition script.  It’s a win-win when you combine cacao powder and nut butter!

Cacao powder is loaded with minerals – iron, zinc and magnesium which is well known to conquer blood sugar swings and sugar cravings.  It also raises two of the “feel-good” hormones in the body known as serotonin and dopamine and provides balanced energy.

Nut Butter is smooth, creamy and delicious.  Each nut butter has its own nutritional profile.  Over all they contain protein, fibre and minerals such as Vitamin E, magnesium, selenium, and iron which are essential for hormone health.

Chocolate Nut Butter Craving Buster Smoothie

Ingredients
  

  • 8 whole frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1 tbsp natural nut or seed butter (my favourites are almond butter or sunflower seed butter)
  • 2 tsp ground flaxseed
  • 2 tbsp Raw Cacao powder
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 20-25 grams Vanilla Protein Powder
  • 4-5 ice cubes
  • 2 tsp Cacao Nibs (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Put all ingredient in blender and blend until you reach the desired consistency. If your smoothie is to thick add more water. Sprinkle with cacao nibs. Enjoy!
